Can Chiropractic Care Treat Your Vertigo?

Vertigo

Vertigo is a sensation of dizziness, both short and long-term. In most cases the problem is treatable; but the treatment method greatly depends on the reason for the vertigo.

Causes

There are three main types of vertigo:

  • Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo or BPPV: When calcium particles obstruct the ear’s canal, it leads to BPPV. According to chiropractors in Dickson, BPPV usually occurs due to aging. Minor strokes and head injuries are also considered as triggering factors of BPPV.
  • Vestibular Neuritis: Most of the time this occurs due to an ear infection. Swelling of the nerves in the inner ear can lead to Vestibular Neuritis.
  • Meniere’s Disease: Build up of fluid that exerts pressure on/in the inner ear can trigger Meniere’s Disease. Sometimes, it leads to complete hearing loss.

Symptoms

Symptoms of this disorder vary wildly from person to person. Some symptoms are :

  • Loss of balance
  • Loss of hearing
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Spinning
  • Sweating

Damages it Causes

Vertigo is usually a result of damage to certain parts of body that helps you with our orientation and balance. Your Vertigo may be the warning sign of:

  • Damages to ligaments or spinal joints
  • Misalignment of vertebrae in the neck
  • Damages to the inner ear

This problem is usually associated with the elderly, male and female. It also happens with younger people, but rarely.

Chiropractic Care for Vertigo

Chiropractic care is an excellent treatment option for Vertigo patients. There are two basic methods in treating this issue.

  • Epley Maneuver: The epley maneuver uses different body positions with timed intervals that help relieve the problem and possibly clearing the obstruction in your ear.
  • Manipulation: Spinal Manipulation repositions your spine so your body can communicate properly which in turn nervous system to function normally. With proper flow and alignment of your vertebrae, your dizziness may no longer be a problem.

Your chiropractor may also suggest some home exercises for Vestibular Rehabilitation which can help alleviate your symptoms/problems.
